The All-new Pro Action
Flagship KTM Dealership gets a make-over by Gary Franks
Butch Hirsch started a shop called Offroad Cycles in Orange Grove in 1974, then moved to Commissioner Street in Jhb as Butch Hirsch Racing in 1978, where he was both the Husqvarna and KTM Importer. The business evolved to become Pro Action in 1998 and moved in 1996 to its current location, an upmarket shop in Paulshof, in Jozies northern suburbs.
Butch had sold his shares in KTM SA back to KTM Austria and had begun discussions with Terry Boustead about the possibility of selling Pro Action, before his unfortunate helicopter accident on the 27th of February this year left Butch temporarily incapacitated.
Himself a very successful businessman and in fact long-standing major sponsor of the KTM offroad racing team (AGA LG), Terry has a long history of involvement with KTM and with racing at the top levels of the sport.
Terrys sponsorship and involvement in the sport stems from the passion he has for motorcycling and it was this passion that he has that saw him stepping in to assist with ensuring Pro Action kept going in Butchs absence, months before the sale was concluded.
The New Pro Action
Terry has stepped up the improvements to the shop which Butch had started, obviously investing a lot of money into taking Pro Action to a new level. The customers experience is paramount to us says Terry.
Stepping into the new Pro Action the upgrades are evident and one cant help but be super-impressed with the abundant stock of all sorts of tantalising bike goodies. You will notice a mix of some of the friendly old faces with a bunch of new ones too. There are now more hands at the spares counter and more willing consultants to assist you on the floor too, whether youre ogling over the latest range of new KTMs, or drooling over the bling new kit they have on display.
Then theres the PowerWear store where an equally impressive range of the exclusive KTM PowerWear merchandise and KTM PowerParts accessories are available. Here you can sit and enjoy a cappuccino whilst discussing the options available with a helpful consultant, or watching the entertaining DVDs showing on one of the big screen LCD monitors in the shop.
You can also browse the PowerWare Catalogue using the on-floor dedicated touch-screen terminal there is some mouth-watering stuff available there.
One of the things you will definitely notice during your visit to the new Pro Action is the helpful and efficient atmosphere. The friendly staff seem happy and willing and this makes your experience at the shop that much more pleasant.
We were invited to the first Customer Evening recently, a social event at the shop where clients having bought a bike within the last month, had the opportunity to win some stunning prizes, from an LCD TV to gift vouchers. This offers clients a great opportunity to meet like-minded people and get to know the Pro Action staff better, whilst enjoying a snack and a few drinks.
Visitors to Pro Actions workshop will notice huge improvements there too, with its own new reception area, dedicated wash bays and far more space in the actual workshops. Nel is the ever-friendly and helpful front lady there and you just know your beloved KTM is in good hands when you book it in with her.
If you havent been around to Pro Action for a while, pop in for a visit sometime it really is most impressive!

Petrus Swanepoel was the first to farm there and the valley supported the hard-working community until 1962 when a road was carved into the valley.
